Côte d’Ivoire

  1. Mission of the Chapter

The objective of the chapter is to initiate the ORSCI (Operations Research Society of Côte d’Ivoire) to promote Operations Research (OR) in all districts Côte d’Ivoire. ORSCI is committed to contributing to the advancement of knowledge, interest, and education in operations research through appropriate means, including information exchange, panel discussions, workshops and conferences, summer schools and the awarding of prizes to encourage people who are passionate about this discipline. ORSCI will provide a framework for the creation and monitoring of small groups of researchers located throughout the regional centers of Côte d’Ivoire to work on both fundamental, applied, and technical research. The Institute is also an avenue for providing training on a scientific approach of decision making for problem solving related to OR. ORSCI is in collaborative association with its sister bodies around Africa and the globe and notably with the African Federation of Operations Research (AFROS) which is being a listed member of International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS).

  1. Rationale

Our survey is based on a collection of information from several research-professors in Cote d’Ivoire. Thus, we have identified two important points:

  1. Lack of collective intelligence and knowledges: unfortunately, each researcher works individually or with foreign research institutes. As a result, this hinders the exchange of ideas and knowledge sharing in OR at the national level.
  2. Researchers are dynamic: the researchers are committed and work with foreign partners to always be at the forefront of advances in operational research.
  3. Lack of scientific events in OR: there is an obvious lack of scientific manifestations in the field. No conferences or networking events have been registered in the field of OR. In addition, there is a lack of scientific publications on applied research topics in OR.

Doctors and PhD students interviewed believe that there is a need for a chapter in Côte d’Ivoire in order to create a dynamic framework to bring together OR enthusiasts and collaborate on various topics of theoretical and applied research to the realities of the country.

We can conclude that there is a potential that merits coaching and support to consolidate and sustain OR research in Côte d’Ivoire.
